Ventura County Agriculture Facts:

More avocadoes are grown here than anywhere else in California, except for San Diego County. The county has three valleys that give coastal and subtropical climates for the production of lemons, (one of the top producers in the world), berry crops such as strawberries and raspberries and ornamental plants. On the fertile Oxnard Plain, row crops such as broccoli, cabbage, lettuce, onions, corn, tomatoes, and peppers are grown in abundance.

Ventura County is also an emerging county of high importance for the nursery industry. Valley Crest Tree Company is the largest grower of boxed trees in the world. Bordeirs Nursery, Coast Nursery and others grow bedding plants, container stock and flowers. Blueberries are an emerging crop here. The seed company Seminis has their world headquarters in the county.

Ventura County is the home of some of the first biological control insectary companies in the state and many companies that support the agriculture industry, such as AgRx, Western Farm, and Fruit Grower's Supply. Ventura County has a coastline with beautiful lightly used beaches. Channel Islands National Park is off the coast and the Visitor's Center is in Ventura. Thousand Oaks is the home of Amgen, a large biotechnology company. Cal State Channel Islands is the newest addition to the California State University System. Due to the wide variety of crops grown in Ventura County, there is a diversity of plant diseases on these high-value crops.
